The Afghan Women Skills Development Center (AWSDC) founded in 1999 is a national non-governmental organization (NGO), dedicated to the promotion and protection of the rights of women in Afghanistan and supporting Afghans to live in peace. The organization key interventions areas are GBV, Women Rights, WASH, Peacebuilding, Economic Empowerment and Humanitarian Response. AWSDC is currently implement GBV, WASH, Peacebuilding, Women Protection Center and Emergency Response interventions across Afghanistan. Our geographical focus areas are Kabul, Parwan, Kapisa, Baghlan, Samangan, Faryab, Kunduz provinces.

Job Description:

Project Summary:

AWSDC has been implementing Provision of Wash Services to SGBV in Kunduz City & Imam Sahib since 2020. The project focuses on provision of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services to vulnerable communities in particularly women headed families who are vulnerable to GBV risk, IDPs and to certain extend to host communities. The services  included rehabilitation of water points(dug wells), rehabilitation of toilets and bath spaces, promotion of better hygiene practices through increasing communities awareness , conducting campaign, door to door visits etc. Waste management is included in the current interventions, thus the project require CLTS facilitators to assist the communities in reaching to open free defecation communities through training, mobilization, awareness and prevention measures.

AWSDC will be hiring three CLTS facilitators to support the target communities in triggering their perception to use toilets, minimize human waste in open areas and to have safe and clean environment so that the level of diseases linked to human waste is declined and communities can enjoy healthy life.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Attend a full course of CLTS training at the central or/and provincial level
  • Implement the CLTS using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) tools with the villagers of target communities
  • Lead the facilitation of ignition and triggering process for Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) in targeted villages and schools.
  • Facilitate sessions with communities in realizing the negative hygienic and sanitary behaviors replaced with positive ones
  • Identify gaps and facilitate with communities how to find solutions to address sanitation gaps through community action plans.
  • Facilitate linking of communities to suppliers of latrine construction materials.
  • Walk throughout the village and interact with all villagers facilitating a rapid change in the attitude of villagers
  • Vigorous follow up from the communities they are triggered
  • Effective use of IEC materials in the target villages and their follow up
  • Conduct hygiene education sessions for the villagers inside the village or at the district or provincial level
  • Assist the female CLTS facilitators liaising the female CHWs and establishing and training the Family Health Action Groups (FHAGs) from the mothers having children less than five years of age
  • Conduct community hygiene awareness and sanitary campaigns
  • Provide technical advice to the villagers in building sanitary latrine
  • Record day to day progress made by villagers in their village and reporting to his/her supervisor
  • Establish mutual and good relationship with the Community Development Councils (CDCs) and other influential leaders of the target villages
  • Assist the CLTS supervisor/WASH Assistant in arranging and facilitating ODF verification, certification and declaration ceremonies at the district and village level
  • Provide CLTS supervisor/WASH Assistant with success stories and photos from special occasions and progresses
  • Reporting on regular bases to the supervisor

Job Requirements:

Qualifications/ Experience, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Implement the project component according to CLTS manual and guideline
  • The CLTS facilitator should be literate (easily reading and writing in local language/s)
  • Around two years of experience working with communities
  • Experience in hygiene and sanitation is preferred
  • Experience in working with community and community mobilization will be given the priority
  • Familiarity with cultures of different Afghan communities
  • Very good interpersonal communication skills
  • Fluency in speaking with villagers
  • Ability to speak in big gatherings and interact very smoothly and politely
  • The candidate should be very polite and patient
  • Skills to convince others
  • Must be able to communicate well in local language/s
  • The candidate must have the ability to work with people of different villages
  • Skill of working in a team
