The Afghanistan Value Chains-High Value Crops (AVC-HVC) project works with anchor firms nationwide to reverse market failures, strengthen backward and forward linkages, drive growth, and create jobs for men, women, and youth along the fruit and nuts, high-value horticulture, spices, and medicinal crops value chains. The Project contributes positive and measurable impacts to the sectors and will ensure that local market actors are involved at every stage of the value chain.
Tawakal Sadat Cold Storage (TSCS) is a partnership business whose office is located alongside Kandahar Airport Road, opposite to Zarifi Mena, Sub District 05, Kandahar, Afghanistan. The business was established in 2015 and started shipment of grapes, pomegranates, apples to India and Pakistan.
The firm mainly works with Afghan fresh fruits firms by providing with them transportation and cold storage services which 90% are transportation services. As of now, the storage services are only offered within Kandahar city. Whereas, the transportation services are offered from Afghanistan to Pakistan and from Afghanistan to Wagah (India, Pakistan Border).
The Technical Expert will provide on-the-job training to 8 technical staff members of the firm. The incumbent will adopt a hands-on approach to train the company staff on the maintenance and servicing of containers such as DAIKIN, CARRIER, and THERMO KING.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the General Manager of Tawakal Sadat Cold Storage, the technical specialist will conduct on-job training to the firm’s technical staff and produce and provide training handouts to the trainees.
Check for refrigerant leaks, evacuate and charge systems, and develop schedules for doing so.
Clean coils and attend to the overall appearance of the equipment.
Responding to emergency service occasionally calls during off-hours.
Correct and report any unsafe working conditions before they result in an accident.
Identify and implement efficiency improvements, cost reductions, and profitability improvement initiatives.
Train staff on the importance and use of personal protective equipment and other food safety measures.
Train firm’s staff on how to control the temperature and the cold storage requirements.
Train the firm’s staff on possible damages that could occur on storage, prevention measures, maintenance, and repair.
Any other task assigned by the supervisor.
8 technical staff of TSCS trained in repairing and servicing the gensets and reefer units.
A standard timetable list for the maintenance and service of all gensets and reefer units developed.
A standard list of error codes for gensets’ defects and reefer units with a diagnostics approach.
Minimum 4-5 years’ technical experience in maintenance of units of refrigerated container.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is an advantage.
Ability to develop plans, schedules, presentations and reports.
Shall have hands-on experience in repairing units of the refrigerated container such as DAIKIN, CARRIER, and THERMO KING
Must be willing to live and work in Kandahar province.
Having Universal EPA Certification – Section 608 is a plus.
