About AWSDC:

The Afghan Women Skills Development Center (AWSDC) founded in 1999 is a national non-governmental organisation (NGO), dedicated to the promotion and protection of the rights of women in Afghanistan and supporting Afghans to live in peace. After the fall of the Taliban regime in late 2001, AWSDC relocated to Afghanistan, continuing to work for the economic empowerment of Afghan women, while also promoting women’s rights more generally, with a particular emphasis on raising women’s participation in all walks of life, social, economic and political. As of 2012 the organization added Peacebuilding program into its strategic objective.

As per AWSDC 2020 organization Plan the organization has undertaking GBV project with inclusion of WASH component in Kunduz City. AWSDC is looking for competent project manager with proven experience in managing and leading WASH project in Kunduz city. The project manager will be leading a team of WASH engineer, WASH assistant and Hygiene promoters. He will be the overall responsible for project soft and hard component. The WASH Project Manager will be reporting to Program Director.

 

Job Description:

Purpose of the position:

The WASH Engineer will be responsible for the design and delivery of high quality Water and Sanitation Infrastructure for the targeted communities in Kunduz City. These components includes rehabilitation of well, rehabilitation of laterin and bathrooms. WASH Engineer will provide leadership in carrying out assessments, design, planning, implementation and monitoring of all WASH components. WASH Engineer will also supervise the design and preparation of all technical documents, Program Description, Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and drawings and the execution and handing over to relevant local authorities. The position will also technically line manage field WASH Technical assistant, and in joint coordination of WSH Project Manager monitor and supervise Hygiene promotion activities of the project staff across dispersed locations and actively engage with the local governments, and all other WASH actors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a member of WASH team should take part in Water /Sanitation activities in the field.
  • Maintain effective communication with hygiene promoters and WASH technical assistant.
  • Maintain close links and coordination with communities and local authorities.
  • Supervise the Improved Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project to ensure the work is carried out in accordance with the agreed design and plan.
  • Check that the quality and quantity of the material used are in accordance with the specification.
  • Train WASH technical assistant in the water quality quantity and standards
  • Supervise the project staff and provide monthly activity reports of the project and submit it to the WASH Project Manager.
  • Provide technical guidance to the WASH assistants.
  • Perform any other duties as required or asked to do by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • Education at Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree level in Civil/ water supply engineering is essential.
  • At least five (5) years of practical experience in WASH engineering, including documented experience in designing and supervising the implementation of water and sanitation schemes.
  • Good knowledge of Water treatment and quality monitoring methods.
  • Knowledge in preparing surveys, planning and execution of rehabilitation of handpum wells, rehabilitation of sanitation component such as latrine and bath space
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in using Engineering CAD Software and other computer applications such as Arc GIS, word, excel, access, PowerPoint etc is an advantages.
  • Demonstrable skills in project planning and design, drafting, calculation, Bill of Quantities preparation and technical writing.
  • Ability to manage teams and communicate effectively with an ethnically diverse team in a sensitive environment.
  • Ability to build other people’s capacity
  • Excellent oral and written English skills required.
  • Culture and conflict sensitive
