Job Summary:

AKF (Afg) is seeking a National Coordinator, Education (Program) who, as focal point for assigned project(s), will coordinate with relative departments to support the Education Program’s achievement of project deliverables and goals, including developing reports and workplans and building positive relationships with education stakeholders. The National Coordinator, Education (Program) is a key member of the Education team who reports to the National Manager, Education (Program) and works in close cooperation with the National and Regional Education teams, Partnerships Unit, Education Knowledge Management Coordinator (EKMC), Implementing Partners, Ministry of Education (MoE), and Donors. The position’s scope of work includes:

● Producing high quality reports, work plans, and other project deliverables as per donor requirements.

● Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with Donors, Implementing Partners, and other Education stakeholders.

● Representing AKF (Afg) in grant-specific meetings, events, and working groups.

She will be based in Kabul, with potential travel to program areas (pending security). AKF (Afg) Education currently works in five regions of central and north-eastern Afghanistan (Bamyan, Parwan, Baghlan, Badakhshan, and Takhar).

Duties & Responsibilities:

● Reporting and Documentation: Ensure high-quality and timely submission of reports and other submissions to Donors and the Ministry of Education (MoE); Work closely with AKF (Afg) National and Regional Education team and EKMO to obtain all relevant information for reports; Prepare adhoc information requests from internal and external stakeholders including project briefs, presentations, and project snapshots.

● Knowledge Management: Work closely with Education Knowledge Management Coordinator (EKMC) to adapt monitoring tools to capture project indicators and other necessary data to monitor project progress; Support the coordination of external and internal monitoring visits/field missions; Support EKMC with coordination of research and evaluation studies to ensure alignment with project requirements; Maintain thorough electronic records.

● Workplan Tracking: Develop and submit project annual workplans as per donor requirements; Monitor project activities and progress against workplans; Coordinate with AKF (Afg) Education National and Regional team members to identify implementation challenges and solutions and negotiate with the Donor on changes to project activities, reporting, budget, timelines, or other submissions; Review AKF (Afg) Yearly Plans of Operation (YPO) to ensure alignment with project workplan and log frame.

● Financial Monitoring: Work closely with National Manager, Education (Implementation & Operations) and Finance focal points to align budget with project workplans and project adaptations; Communicate issues/change/extension requests with Donors, as needed.

● Strategic Communications: Develop and disseminate communications materials (case studies, human interest stories, videos, photo essays, presentations, etc) for internal and external audiences to document project impact, including lessons learned and best practices.

● External Relations: Build and maintain constructive working relationships with relevant stakeholders including Donors, MoE, Implementing Partners, and other Education stakeholders; Represent AKF (Afg) in external and internal forums, events, and working groups; Coordinate with relevant department to facilitate Donor missions/field visits.

● Gender Equality: Ensure gender equity and gender mainstreaming throughout project implementation in coordination with AKF (Afg) Gender unit.

● Child Protection: Carry out the responsibilities of the role and project in a way which reflects AKF (Afg)’s commitment to protecting children in accordance with the Child Safeguarding Policy.


● Support AKF (Afg) Partnerships Unit and National Manager, Education (Program) with proposal and concept note development to mobilize additional funding for project program areas.

● Support short-term AKF (Afg) Education assignments, as needed.


● Project coordination of assigned projects (project deliverables and compliance) in coordination with AKF (Afg) senior management.

Job Requirement:

● Minimum Master’s Degree (preferably in Education or International Development) and further Project Management Professional Certification or relevant training.

● Minimum three years’ experience in Education / Program / Project Management.

● Professional experience in developing countries, preferentially, in Afghanistan.

● Experience in managing programs.

● Excellent English written and spoken communication skills (knowledge of Dari and Pashto is an advantage).

● Ability to develop and manage effective internal reporting systems.

● Ability to work, communicate effectively, and nurture positive relationships with a culturally diverse team.

● Ability to work autonomously, proactively, and with limited supervision.
